What is GATE Exam?

GATE stands for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. It is an all India exam and which conducted in eight zones across the country by the GATE Committee. The ranks scored in GATE exam becomes the base of the post graduation. It is conducted Indian Institute of Sciences and eight other Indian Institute of Technology (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Roorkee). The duration of the exam is 3 hours with the maximum of 100 marks with 65 total questions. The exam is done online. Most of the engineering students appear for this exam for further studies.


Who Can Give the Exam?

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is the exam which is given by those students who have completed Bachelor of Engineering (BE)/ Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech)/ Bachelor of Science (B.Sc)/ Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch)/ Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm). However, students who are currently in the final year can also apply for the exam.

When Should We Start Preparing?

You can start preparing for the exam anytime you feel comfortable too. Eligibility for the GATE exam is either completion of bachelor’s degree or final year students. However, there is no restriction in preparing. You can start preparing in the 1st year or 2nd year or 3rd year.

How Should We Prepare?

  • Preparation for Mathematics:

You can start preparing for mathematics from your first year. Mathematics is one of the subjects in 1st and 2nd year. Preparing mathematics from the beginning will give you a lot of time to practice and mathematics ask for practice.  Those students who have been brilliant in mathematics must practice it on a regular basis. Total weight age is 15%.

  • Preparation for General Aptitude:

The preparation for this can also be done in any level of engineering like mathematics. This part is common for all the students of different branches. There is no different subject as “Aptitude” in the graduate level syllabus. So students need to prepare everything by themselves from the beginning. Total weighting is 15%.

  • Preparation for Subject Questions:

This part has 70% of the marks weight. The preparation for this part must be done according to the paper you have chosen to attempt. Go through every corner of the subject and read everything. This will help you in scoring well in your subject and will lead to your selection in GATE 2018.
